I had this book on my Amazon Wishlist since it came out. Then my sis in law gave it to me out of the blue this spring(no occasion- I'm just loved!). You've probably heard of it if you're a parent with a picky eater in the family. I'm referring to the wonderful guide to healthy cooking called Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food by Jessica Seinfeld, wife of the funny & talented Jerry Seinfeld.
This book has made all the difference in the world to my cooking for my ultra picky son's diet, as well as for the rest of the family). Sneaking squash, carrots, cauliflower, peas, sweet potatoes, bell peppers & other healthy veggies into everyday foods is a blessing. This book has inspired me to come up with my own recipes, experimenting with different food combinations. Tristan has no clue. He adores my meatloaf (which I now make with broccoli!!). Mashed potatoes with cauliflower, spaghetti with carrots, chili with squash and bell peppers (Hubby hates squash & bell peppers).. the list goes on and on. I use these techniques every night, now. This is for my kid whose only fruit & vegetable intake was bananas, apples(after a fight and dessert bribe), and corn(another fight and bribe for dessert). We still have to work on the eating actual veggies at the dinner table, but I at least know he's getting some nutrition in his daily eating.
Jessica shows you how to prepare the veggies, how to store them, and some recipes to get you started. Seriously, if you haven't bought this book and you have to pull teeth to get your child to eat anything remotely healthy, you NEED to! Deceptively Delicious can be found at Amazon.com and other fine book retailers.

My kid, thus far, is not a picky eater.... although I'm sure I just screwed myself saying that.... but I still love mashed potatoes with cauliflower in them. I'll have to check out the book for other suggestions. Sounds good to me. :) If I could I'd be a vegetarian, but hubby would never put up with that. lol
holy smokes I haven't been here in forever!! Sorry for the absence.
lol :)
I have seen the book. I have seen her on talk shows. And I just blew it off. It really does take someone you "know" to tell you to do something! My girls aren't crazy picky...but they are not veggie fans. And to be honest, neither am I. Maybe this is a way to sneak veggies into MY food!
Oh yeah...I love this book! Have you made the spinach brownies yet? I know...gag. It sounds horrible, but they're really good. Hubby doesn't even know the spinach is in them!
You rock! I so need this book! When D was down to eating only mashed potatoes, I started mixing baby food in it... but I need to do this for the rest of my family too - they seem to only like meat, not too keen on the veggies...
I've heard very good things about this book. I think I could use it on me (I don't like cooked veggies) more than my boys (they eat everything they see).
Oh, I'm giving you a fabulous blog award in my tomorrow's post. Enjoy!
Are there any zucchini recipes in there?
I should look at this book, I could use a lot of that information!
I've tagged you.
